A Fantastic Evening of Wildlife at Babbinswood Farm

What a good evening last night (22/08/2026)! We had 40 nature enthusiasts including many young children join us on the Bat Walk and Moth Identification last night in the soon-to-be community-owned field.

Quite a few bats were spotted by the younger eyes amongst us and a number were detected through the Bat Monitors. Many thanks to our very own bat man Andy Cristanacce for the fascinating insight into the life of bats and the different varieties and instructing us in the use of bat detectors and being there to help us identify which bats were which. There were definitely Pippestrelle bats flying around.

Also thanks to the local moth expert Dr Simon Spencer who set up moth traps (pictured above) to enable us to get up close and personal (well almost!) with a variety of moths, including large yellow underwing, copper underwing, brimstone, common wainscot, square spotted rustic, six-stripe rustic and centre sallow.

And finally thanks to Casha who organised the evening. A good time was had by all and we raised £240 for the CBS.
