Babbinswood Farm CBS
Who are we?
We’re a group of locals who joined with the farmers at Babbinswood Farm to form Babbinswood Farm Community Benefit Society (BFCBS), a non-profit co-operative organisation seeking to buy parts of the farm (land and buildings) and expand community activities there.
Our coalition of slightly muddy but highly motivated volunteers are aiming for two connected goals: saving as much land at the farm as possible, and building a better future for the community through community co-ownership.
More information on our Directors can be found here.
What are we saving?
The community is invested in saving as much land as is affordable, maintaining its organic certification, and to continue the tradition of farming the land to provide nutritious food through a farm tenancy. The Jones’s devoted their lives to trying their very best to care for the soil, plants and animals who live on their land. This will not be lost.
Community connections have been part of Babbinswood Farm’s history. As a Society we aim to keep these links live and intend to expand on them.
Education and leisure time have also been an integral part of the farm’s heritage. The Society will carry on providing opportunities for people to
- learn about organic principles and how to apply them
- get involved with growing and producing food
- hands on practical experiences
- enjoy the countryside through guided walks for example
